Sunday 3rd June 2012
At HIGH TIDE on Sunday 3rd June one of the largest flotillas ever seen on the Thames will sail directly past The Yacht London, to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, herself a visitor to the Yacht on 2 occasions.
The Yacht London is steeped in history, having served King George VI, London and the Thames in peacetime and war for over 8 decades. This 130ft fully restored steam yacht, originally commissioned by the Port Of London Authority, was commandeered by the Admiralty in 1939 and was the first ship on the Thames to open fire on enemy aircraft. Refitted after the end of hostilities, she became the host vessel for visiting heads of state and other dignitaries including Sir Winston Churchill, Russian Premiers Malenkov and Breznev, Benazir Bhutto and many others, including, of course, Her Majesty.
To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, The Yacht London will host an exclusive and unique VIP event.
